چکیده

Characteristics of biogenic VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) as well as methodology of BVOC (Biogenic VOC) emission estimation are presented in this article. It has been shown in previous studies (e.g. Simpson et al, 1995) that contribution of volatile organic compounds (VOC) emitted from biogenic sources to total amount of VOC in the atmosphere can be significant. Especially while modeling photochemical processes over forested areas biogenic sources should not be neglected. Emissions of volatile organic compounds – isoprene and monoterpenes from forest ecosystems in the area of Czech Republic were estimated. Results were compared with antropogenic emission data in different regions of the Czech Republic. It has been shown that the amounts of biogenic VOC emissions are comparable with emissions from anthropogenic sources in most of the regions. Spatial and temporal distributions of emissions are presented as well.

Estimation of Biogenic VOC Emissions in the Czech Republic

Characteristics of biogenic VOC as well as methodology of BVOC emission estimation are presented in this article. Biogenic emissions of VOC were estimated using semi-empirical model proposed by Guenther et al., 1995. Terms of formation, amount, spatial distribution of tropospheric ozone and the contribution of biogenic sources of VOC to ozone precursors were studied using numerical model for su...

Past and present-day biogenic volatile organic compound emissions in East Asia

Biogenic volatile organic carbon (VOC) emissions from vegetation in East Asia are estimated for two contrasting land-cover scenarios: near present-day conditions derived from satellite data and pre-disturbed land-cover based on climatological parameters and plant functional type. Hourly fluxes of isoprene and monoterpenes are calculated on a grid of 60 km 60 km cells covering much of East Asia ...

Biogenic volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from forests in Finland

We present model estimates of biogenic volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the forests in Finland. The emissions were calculated for the years 1995–1997 using the measured isoprene and monoterpene emission factors of boreal tree species together with detailed satellite land cover information and meteorological data. The three-year average emission is 319 kilotonnes per annum, which i...

Sensitivity analysis of tropospheric ozone to modified biogenic emissions for the Mid-Atlantic region

Biogenic sources contribute a large portion of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a precursor to tropospheric ozone (O3). These emissions are difficult to control and are affected by land-use and climate. A sensitivity analysis was performed using an emissions scenario with a 100% increase in biogenic emissions and another scenario with an additional 100% increase in motor vehicle ...

The impact of biogenic VOC emissions on tropospheric ozone formation in the Mid- Atlantic region of the United States

In many areas, natural sources contribute a substantial fraction of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, which are precursors to tropospheric ozone (O3). To investigate the significance of biogenic VOC emissions on ozone formation, meteorological and air quality modelling were used to generate hourly ozone estimates for a case-study high ozone episode in the Mid-Atlantic region of the Uni...
